Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre successfully operates with a small compact team. Barbara McConchie, Executive Director; Jas Hugonnet, Curator Exhibitions; Diana Hare, Curator of Public Programs and Alice Macdonald, Finance Officer are the core of Craft ACT activities. In addition they are assisted by two casual weekend staff, Julie Ryder and Linda Davey. Together they manage an extraordinary level of programs for the benefits of Canberra and the region audiences and support local contemporary craft artists and designers through membership and other activities.
Barbara McConchie is currently the Executive Director of Craft ACT, where she was previously Curator and Exhibitions Manager. Barbara is interested in the role of contemporary craft venues to present, promote and investigate objects made by craft artists, makers and designers, and the role objects play in our lives and how they add to our rich cultural landscape.
Diana Hare originally completed an internship with Craft ACT in December 2004. Since then she has become the engine room of Craft ACT's communications and public programs. Her enthusiasm and professionalism has been of great benefit to Craft ACT and its members, artists and audiences.
Jas Hugonnet is the Curator and Exhibitions Manager. Jas' background in architecture and his own sculptural practice brings a considered approach to this role and an expert eye in exhibition design and presentation. Jas is a strong support and advocate for Craft ACT members.
Alice Macdonald manages Craft ACT's finances and administration. With a tertiary degree in the Visual Arts Alice brings a succinct knowledge of the arts together with enormous skills in accounts and book-keeping. Successfully managing the vagaries of arts funding, Alice understands the importance of supporting Craft ACT's members and artists through efficiency and good financial processes.
