About Craft ACT: Funding bodies

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre's principle funding partner is the ACT Government. The ACT Government states in its policy action statement Arts Canberra:

Arts Canberra recognises that the arts must continue to grow to become even more lively and sustainable in order to realise the Canberra Plan's vision of our city representing the best in Australian creativity and community living. Excellence, diversity and the accessibility of arts experiences are central to meeting the diverse needs of our community.

Its vision is: The ACT is rich in arts activities and experiences that creatively engage, challenge and inspire our community.

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre's 2nd funding partner is the Australian Federal Government. Their support is articulated in the 2005-2006 Annual Report of the Australia Council:

The Australia Council is the Australian government's principal arts funding and advisory body. Its mission is to enrich the lives of Australians and their communities by supporting the creation and enjoyment of the Arts…. The Australia council cultivates Australia's creativity by investing in individuals and organisations working in Indigenous arts, community partnerships, culturally divers and accessible arts, dance, media arts, literature, music, theatre and visual arts.

Craft ACT's growth as an organisation reflects government funding combined with strong corporate governance and a creative artistic vision. Its service delivery to artists is focused and consolidated and its external activities and public programs in support of audience development has improved and grown in line with Government policies.

Craft ACT has ensured that the ACT Government's investment in this organisation is recognised as a significant cultural facility amongst larger facilities within its physical location at Civic Square in Canberra's CBD.

The recent Federal and State and Territory commitment to the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS) funding, has ensured that Craft ACT continues to be a site for audiences to come and engage with the craft and design and, by extension, the visual arts sector. Craft ACT is a cultural enabler, supporting, responding and developing Canberra's unique position as an incubator of excellence and innovation in craft and design.
