Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is seeking an arts management professional to lead the organisation. This is an outstanding opportunity to play a key leadership role in one of Australia's leading creative centres for the development of visual art, craft and design.

Remuneration Package $82,000 to $92,000 depending on experience.
Flexible working arrangements negotiable.

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is seeking an arts management professional to lead the organisation This is an outstanding opportunity to play a key leadership role in one of Australia's leading creative centres for the development of visual art, craft and design.

The CEO reports to the Management Committee and leads the Craft ACT team in delivering its Strategic Business Plan initiatives and artistic program. The position calls for arts and business leadership and management and interpersonal skills. Experience in areas of financial, program and project management, funding, sponsorship and philanthropy, and community partnerships, along with knowledge of visual art, craft and design are needed.

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is a key cultural organisation in Canberra. The organisation advocates for and supports ACT and Australian artists in craft and design to foster artistic excellence and connect them with ACT and global communities. Craft ACT aspires to bring a diverse, dynamic and richer cultural life to Canberra and to strengthen the link between the arts and community. Its purpose is to enhance the cultural network of artistic excellence and the craft and design ecology in the ACT and Australia.

Craft ACT is a membership organisation and manages an exhibition program including incoming and outgoing touring exhibitions; a diverse range of public programs, one-off events and special projects, including DESIGN Canberra; and operates the retail store AGENCY.

Duty Statement

The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Management Committee and leads the Craft ACT team in delivering its Strategic Business Plan initiatives and artistic program. The CEO will:

  1. Develop, manage and implement the Craft ACT Strategic Business Plan and meet key performance indicators in the delivery of its goals and initiatives.
  2. Ensure fiscal management and identify and access opportunities through grants, sponsorship and philanthropy to broaden and strengthen the organisations financial base.
  3. Oversee human resources for the management of:
    • Exhibition and public programs
    • DESIGN Canberra and special projects
    • Retail and business development
    • Sponsorship and philanthropy
    • Membership
    • Communications and marketing
  4. Represent the organisation to stakeholders and the general public.
  5. Maintain good governance including acquittals, risk management, Worksafe ACT, legislative requirements and the Craft ACT Constitution.
  6. Manage human resources including recruitment and staff reviews.
  7. Maintain strong relationships with funding bodies, government agencies, key stakeholders, sponsors, partners and members.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate clear vision and goals within the context of strategic business plan development and implementation.
  2. Proven governance and financial management skills including the ability to develop and manage operational and projects budgets and experienced in grant applications, acquittals, sponsorship and philanthropy.
  3. bility to manage teams and individuals to deliver organisational outcomes.
  4. Proven organisational, program and project leadership skills.
  5. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the contemporary craft and design sector in the ACT and Australia.

  1. Business development, particularly around retail and product development
