Gallery 1:   Baseline: Remnant Grasslands of Weereewa/Lake George

Beth Hatton and Christine James

Sydney textile artist Beth Hatton and Canberra painter Christine James create works inspired by Weereewa/Lake George; identifying with the significance it holds for local indigenous communities and subsequent settler populations.


Complimenting the exhibition is Baselines: colonisation and conservation, a one day forum that will provide an opportunity to explore the possibilities that art and artists can bring to expand and enhance our experiences of unique environments and their conservation. Gallery 2:   weaving in and out of time

Caroline Huf

As part of VIVID, the National Photography Festival, Craft ACT presents an exhibition by Caroline Huf. She records the sequential process of creation using still photographs to produce stop motion animated video. The works that appear in both the film and gallery space include objects woven from discarded packaging, and hand-modelled plasticine forms.

 

Crucible Showcase:   Canberra Potters' Society Award - Joanne Searle

In partnership with the Canberra Potters' Society (CPS), Craft ACT awards an annual showcase exhibition to an outstanding practitioner selected from the Society's annual member's exhibition. In 2008 the Craft ACT CPS Award went to Joanne Searle who is developing new work based around the concept of an egg as an uninterrupted form.

Front Counter Showcase:   The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Ruth Parry

Ruth Parry presents new work based on the brooch and its intersection with the notion of commemoration. Through the combination of precious silver, paper and insect imagery, Parry creates contemporary talismans for the discerning wearer.

Foyer Showcase:   Vanessa Samuels

Vanessa Samuels presents a collection of wearable resin jewellery focusing on layering, stacking, repetition and morphing. Her playful work explores graduating tones and cast shadows.

Craft ACT in association with the ACT Heritage Library presents an exhibition display by emerging curator Victoria Clarke. essential presents a collection of objects that unite practicality and beauty in original ways.
